Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo
Founded in 1912, The Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc. provides effective legal advice and representation to financially needy men, women and children in Western New York. Through its skilled staff, the Legal Aid Bureau seeks equal justice for everyone it serves. In 2014, the Bureau's 98 employees provided legal assistance to over 20,000 undeserved members of our community.
Legal Aid provides legal assistance through four main Divisions: (1) the Civil Legal Services Unit assists individuals and families in a variety of civil legal matters that have a direct impact on their quality of life; (2) the Attorneys for Children Unit represents neglected, abused and other children at risk; (3) the Criminal Defense Unit defends individuals charged with crimes and violations; and (4)the Appeals and Post-Conviction Unit represents individuals convicted of crimes on appeal and other post-conviction matters.
