NYLAG provides hope for thousands of New Yorkers in need each year. NYLAG is unique for its ability to serve not only the abject poor, but also individuals and families who earn slightly above the government-designated poverty threshold.

We’re able to serve this population because we neither apply for, nor do we receive, Federal Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funding. NYLAG relies heavily on private donations to enable us to serve the lower middle class and working poor individuals who still cannot afford private counsel.

Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) is a community-based, nonprofit organization founded in 1979 that serves Washington Heights and Inwood, in upper Manhattan. Pro Bono Net is a national nonprofit organization based in New York City and San Francisco. We work in close partnership with nonprofit legal organizations across the United States and Canada, to increase access to justice for the millions of poor people who face legal problems every year without help from a lawyer.

We strive to provide pro bono legal assistance when and where it will be most accessible to our clients, in settings familiar to them, instead of requiring people in desperate need to come to us.   

We do this by working closely with hospitals, schools, senior centers, and other community organizations, and integrating pro bono legal assistance into the array of services these organizations already provide.

The Western New York Law Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1996 after Congress restricted the types of cases that Legal Services Corporation (LSC) grantees could handle.

The Center represents low-income Western New Yorkers in civil matters, emphasizing those areas restricted by LSC. Our vision and mission with respect to our legal work is to assure that low-income people receive the full range of civil legal services including “non-traditional” legal assistance like policy advocacy and legal education.

The Center also serves as a statewide technology support center for legal services programs. Our vision and mission with respect to our technology work is to help legal services offices statewide use technology in a cost effective manner to better serve their clients in this time of diminishing resources.

Our target populations are legal services managers, attorneys, paralegals, clients and support staff.
